3 Reasons Why EVERYONE (Including You) Can Benefit From Therapy
Don’t think you need therapy? Think again!
Everyone (even the happiest of the happy) can benefit from therapy.
Don’t believe me…
….Then chew over these thoughts for a moment.
3 reasons Why EVERYONE Can Benefit From Therapy:
1. You get an objective, knowledgeable third party who can help you you analyze a problem, then solve and overcome it.
Whether we like it or not, we ALL face problems. It’s just a fact of life. I don’t know about you but the times I’ve sought outside help to put my issues into perspective, I’ve always walked away with a different outlook (often more positive) than my own. This helps me tackle whatever obstacle stands before me in a more strategic, efficient way because truth is, I don’t know everything (even though sometimes I think I do!) and the advice I usually get opens up my mind to a different way of thinking and seeing. As they say, two heads are better than one!
2. Talking with a therapist helps you deal with your past and put it into perspective.
You know those voices inside your head, the ones telling you that you are not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, that you’re a failure? These voices are made up from the sum of your past experiences (childhood, former relationships with lovers, teachers, family and friends, strangers and so on). Good or bad, we’re all shaped by certain experiences in our lives. But our past doesn’t have to define us. A therapist can help put things into perspective as well as help you to overcome those negative thoughts (which usually are NOT true) and replace them with positive ones.
3. Your emotional intelligence increases which leads to you living a more fulfilled life.
Emotional intelligence boils down to self-awareness. As Lifehacker so perfectly stated, “Self-awareness (sometimes also referred to as self-knowledge or introspection) is about understanding your own needs, desires, failings, habits, and everything else that makes you tick. The more you know about yourself, the better you are at adapting life changes that suit your needs. Essentially, the more you pay attention to your emotions and how you work, the better you'll understand why you do the things you do. The more you know about your own habits, the easier it is to improve on those habits.” You’re also more equipped to help others because you can recognize their pain points and support them. All of which leads to feeling more fulfilled!
These are just 3 of many wonderful reasons why everyone can benefit from therapy.
Don’t let the stigma that therapy is only for those struggling with a mental illness or facing a severe hardship blind you from the truth.
The truth is this - If you want to be the happiest, most productive, loving and fulfilled version of yourself, seeking professional help can often fast-track this journey.
Are you ready to heal? To learn? To grow? To live a fulfilled life?
